I grew up in Boston, went to school in New York, lived for a bit in DC, lived in London for four years, but I moved in September 06 to rural South Africa to work for my family business, an aviation safari company called Hanks Aero Adventures . This involved a lot of flying around in small Cessnas into the safari camps way out in the bush, and I fell madly in love with bush flying down here. I got my commercial pilot's license, and am now running around the bush to find work flying light aircraft.
I'm into aviation, travel, and going out with friends (does that count as a hobby or a bad habit?) but also sewing, quilting, cooking, and animals.
This journal was started as a way to keep up with my friends while I was off in Africa, and now kind of catalogues my (mis) adventures in Africa. We have cobras in the yard, bush fires on the hill, but also lovely quiet evenings listening to jackals calling and sunny mornings watching wildebeest gallop from our porch. I live in a little cottage on a nature reserve, about 5 miles down a pretty bad dirt road, with a bridge that floods three days a week in the summer.
